Let me put you on... Victoire Focx

A lot of my friends are up to some pretty interesting things career-wise. My homegirl CONSTANCE FOX, for example, is in the process of starting her own line of designer handbags called VICTOIRE FOCX.

La bella Costanza

Ever since we first met in our Elementary Italian class, I knew this girl was cool. She would come to class everyday with 4-inch heels on; she's already tall, and the hills in Providence are NO JOKE to walk up and down everyday, so she had my respect from the jump! Here's a little insight into the fabulous girl behind the brand.

What is the inspiration behind your line?
I began designing handbags back in 2007 when I discovered an old camera with undeveloped film in it. After developing the film, I realized that all of the images were of architectural motifs that had fascinated me from a trip that I made to Italy during the previous year. I was interested in developing a line of high end handbags, and lacking a sufficient source of inspiration, I decided to use the architectural images as a point of reference for stylizing the bags. I think certain motifs on different edifices can be beautiful accessory pieces when scaled down to adorn certain parts of the female form.

Why handbags, as opposed to clothes or shoes?
I chose handbags because any woman, regardless of size, shape, height and stature can wear a great handbag. Whether or not a handbag looks good on you is not dependent on being a size 2 or 4.

Which bag(s) is your favorite out of your collection and why?
My favorite bag is the Karilaid Karry-All because of all of the space it has, and the timeless shape and design.

Which handbag trends are you seeing for Spring 2009?
For Spring 2009, I'm seeing a return to lots of color, and exotic skins. Not so much gold/silver hardware, but just an emphasis on beautiful timeless design--right now people are investing more in classics, as opposed to trends. And this is where Victoire Focx steps in!
