The Look: Birthday Bash at Recess

I pulled out all the stops for my birthday bash with Rock Creek Social Club at Recess last week. From the dress to the nails to the lashes, I was DETERMINED to--yet again--be the baddest bish in the room.

To start off my look, I busted out a brand new pair of Wispies, copped the night before while beauty shopping with my homegirl Ashley:

Before/After

Not bad for a first timer, yah? I did practice applying them beforehand so I didn't waste a band of lashes, but overall, I found them surprisingly easy to work with.

After applying the lashes, I set to creating my full eye look for the evening. That involved the following products:
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP)
  • SMH Metro (silvery taupe) in the crease
  • MAC Reflects Antique Gold pigment over the lid, in the inner V of the eye and on the lower lashline
  • Rocket City RC-67 palette (the golden pink shade) as a brow highlighter
  • Maybelline Define-A-Line in Ebony Black to line the lower lashline
  • CoverGirl Eye Enhancers in Brown Smolder to soften and smudge the black liner
Full eye, sans lashes

I used liquid glycerin mixed with a little water to apply the Reflects Antique Gold. This worked well in terms of preventing fallout and helping the pigment stay put, but unfortunately, it did lead to some creasing by the end of the night despite the UDPP underneath:

Golden arches

I finished off the look with NYX Blush in Pecan on my cheeks, and MAC Plushglass in Big Kiss on my pucker:

Lashes for days!

As for what I wore, I kept it simple and chic with a charcoal-colored dress by XOXO worn under a cropped motorcycle jacket from H&M. Didn't even think to get a full body pic with the shoes, but I kept my tootsies warm, comfy, & equally as chic in some black suede slouchy knee-high boots from Journeys. I topped everything off with one of my favorite accessories, a sparkly purple glass flower necklace I picked up while consignment shopping (and which you can get a better look at in this post):

Nothing like a great look to compliment a fun and fantastic evening!
