You know I couldn't let a day of celebration go by without the appropriate nail gear. As an early birthday gift to myself, I ordered some Fimo nail art off of eBay. Fimo is a polymer clay that is rolled into elongated canes, which are then thinly sliced to make nail decorations. You can buy the canes in their elongated form or order them pre-sliced, like I did. There's a whole video I found on the process of making them; fascinating!
For more info on Fimo nail art, click here.
I love that Fimo is so tiny, yet so detailed. It reminds me of my obsession with dollhouses when I was younger... all tiny everything!
For this look, I did an American manicure--like a French mani, but with colored tips--with Nicole by OPI's The Grape Debate (a deep plum) as the base and Nicole by OPI's Glitz & Glisten
(glittery magenta) over top. I covered that with a clear base, and stuck the Fimo and a little nail jewel on top of that. Then I topped everything off with a couple coats of Seche Vite
. Four days and counting, and my digital fruit salad is still intact.
iLove! Yet again, I find myself unable to tear my eyes away from my nails. If you see a hot chick with dreads walking around town and into oncoming traffic and various poles, signs and whatnot, just remember, her nails are probably very fierce.

Lisa-isms: Mambo Sauce
Disclaimer: Mambo sauce isn't a phrase I came up with myself, per se. But anywhere I use it outside the DC-metro area I'm met with a look of pure confusion, so here ya go:
Mambo Sauce (n.) - A neon red, sweet & tangy-tasting sauce common to DMV (mostly DC though) carryouts. Especially delicious paired with an order of 4-piece chicken wings & fries. Also, a go-go band.
ex. "Yo. I could really go for a 4-piece chicken wings & fries with mambo sauce. Yummers."
Funny story: When I was in NYC, I asked this guy on his break from a restaurant 1. Where I could find the nearest Metro station and 2. Where da mambo sauce at?! He told me the nearest Metro was in NJ and had never heard of mambo sauce. We talked for, like, ten minutes tryna figure each other out. Finally he said, "You're not from 'round here are ya?" No sir.
Another funny story: One time I hit up this carryout I'd never been to before. Before I even placed my order, the Asian dude behind the counter says, "I know what you want. You want chicken wing & french fry!" Thanks for stereotyping me bro... but that's EXACTLY what I wanted, and I made sure he added the mambo sauce too.9/9/10
My grandma aims to please
"Want some cookies? Want some ice cream with your cookies? Want some soda with your ice cream?"Lol, grannies are the best.

My 3-Day Weekend Birthday Extravanganza
A picture's worth a thousand words. Here's how I spent my weekend:

Date #2: The sushi spot
Happy snow day to all my East Coasters! I haven't seen snow like this since I left Rhode Island. Nothing says "pure hell" like having to move all your luggage and ish through a blizzard to make it home for the holidays
Anyways, on to date #2. Our second date finds me and my special fella friend in the same area where the magic first took place: Adams Morgan. Only this time, we bypassed the boozing and rap ciphers and settled on my favorite sushi spot
...Which just happens to be a few doors down from the rockin' little venue where we had our first date. ~*Memories*~ lol.
Anyways, because of our last date, we were determined to keep THIS date as dry as possible. What we lacked in liquor we made up for with another awesome time
We had a seat by the window so we could catch all the people outside walking past as we ordered and waited for our food. The meal itself was delicioso, and also quite beautiful to look at. In fact, Date said it reminded him of bento boxes, which I covered in this post a few months ago. Cute and cultured! What more could a girl ask for, lol.
Presentation is everything, especially in a lot of Asian cuisine, and our chef did not disappoint. I WISH I had a working camera on my phone (notice the donation box to the right, folks!), or else I would have snapped a pic. We each got the sushi sampler meal, and the chef arranged little sashimi roses on both our plates. Then, using some kind of sauce, he also drew a butterfly on my plate! It was amazing.
I had to teach Date how to use chopsticks, which was fun. He's a pretty quick learner (except for dropping his nigiri right into the soy sauce, where it promptly fell apart... haha), so we were chowing down in no time.
After the date, we chilled inside Boquisha (pause), listening to my iPod, jammin' out and talking some more. We found out we have a helluva lot in common... other than having a low tolerance for alcohol, of course
Another date, wrapped up without incident. Yay me! A couple days later he calls and we organize our third date...

Happy turkey day! Or Tofurkey if you're a vegetarian
Thanksgiving is a day mired in controversy, so I'm a little "eh" about celebrating the day in its traditional sense. But I've always been down to celebrate it secularly!
- A loving family and good friends
- Good health
- A sense of humor
- Finishing school (def. a biggie for this year)
- My youth (thus having the time and energy to pursue my life goals)
- Cats
Enjoy your holiday, lovers! Smooches :-*

Bento boxes!
I love all things sushi-related, cutesy, and Japanese-y, so imagine my surprise/joy last night at discovering the awesomeness that is bento boxes. Bento is basically a Japanese boxed lunch, but some people have gotten really creative with them.
The more elaborate bento boxes--the ones I fell in luh with--are called kyaraben.

It don't matter who you is miss, you can get the BISCUITS (hey, I tried)
Is it a problem that most of what I know about current affairs I've learned from Twitter? I was so against Twitter at first (Mike knows what I'm talking about, heh) but it really draws you in. I mean, you only have 140 characters to write, so that cuts down on a lot of BS and filler just because there's no space to write it. Quick, short, and to the point... I can dig it. Plus, some of the people I follow are highly quotable (like yours truly
Speaking of biscuits, I can't tell the difference between KFC and Popeye's chicken. Like, if you fed me a drumstick from one of those places right now, I wouldn't be able to tell you which one it came from. My mom says I should have my black card revoked

Shawty let's go get our grub on
I think Trey Songz is the new R. Kelly. He definitely has the "I-wanna-do-nasty-thangs-to-you-while-singing-a-smoove-ass-tune" thing down pat, minus that whole "sleeping-with-underaged-girls" thing.
"Grub On" puts an insta-smile on my face whenever it comes up randomly on my iPod, I dunno if it cuz I love IHOP or what. Pretty sure it's the funny and kind of clever lyrics though, which are below for your viewing pleasure.
Anyways, enjoy this ode to the IHOP... in your pants!
Damn, I'm so hungry
Plus I'm layin
What time is it?
I'll tell you what...
It's 5 o'clock in the morning
and the club is over
Shawty let's go get our grub on
I had way too much to drink
and I need to get sober
So, let's go get our grub on
Baby let's get out of here
I know a place not far from here
that I can get that grub on
Said my stomach's growlin' so crazy,
would you please feed me baby?
Girl let me get my grub on
No cheese steak or grits...
I don't have a taste for that
I don't want pancakes or bacon...
I don't have a taste for that
Girl I want something fulfilling
that's gon' fill my appetite
Girl you're the only one that can make it alright
Will you be my IHOP baby?
Can I place my order?
The food in here is crazy
Twenty-four hours
'Round the clock you open
Baby here's a tip:
You hop on top of me,
I hop on top of you
I'm thinking 'bout going for seconds,
maybe some dessert, yeah
I'm still tryna get my grub on
And when I taste ya coffee
with sugar and cream
This spot is where I belong, ohhh...
Cake and whip cream so divine
I could eat here all the time
Is there a doggy bag I could take home?
Tellin' you if you ain't taste it,
think you better call your waitress
Cuz IHOP's open 'til the early morn
No fruitcakes, no salads...
I don't have a taste for that
Lookin' for a meal with a balance
Something that can satisfy me
Girl I want something fulfilling
That's gon' take care of my cravings
So girl tell me can you feed me?
Will you be my IHOP baby?
Can I place my order?
The food in here is crazy
Twenty-four hours
'Round the clock you open
Baby here's a tip:
You hop on top of me,
while I hop on top of you
I like that blueberry syrup
I like that strawberry syrup
Now baby lay your body down
and let me lick it all up
Now baby let's get you seated
Don't need a plate to, whoo!
Get a good meal,
let me show you girl it's real
But it's gon' be just me and you
We gon' grub 'til we full
So tell me it's cool
[x2]
Will you be my IHOP baby?
Can I place my order?
The food in here is crazy.
Twenty-four hours
'Round the clock you open
Baby here's a tip:
You hop on top of me,
I'ma I hop on top of you
Now gimme that Rootie-Tootie
that Fresh & Fruity
that, that, that big ol' booty
Now come and do me
Grub on, grub on...
Grub on, grub on...

Nut after nut after nut after nut
I was ravenously hungry at work today and raided the kitchen for some snacks. Found a little pack of trail mix and LQI'd* uncontrollably when I noticed Planters' nifty little slogan. Yeah, I'm a perv.
* Laughed quietly inside. Future Lisa-ism? YES

I'm attracted to shiny things
I love gum, I'm always chewing that mess. Decided to switch it up recently and try this new sugarless 5 gum. First thing I noticed, this gum has great package design. From the box itself (sleek & black) to the gum wrapper (metallic fuchsia), I was impressed and def. could not wait to chew it. Good thing it lived up to the package design, it's delish. I felt like I was chewing designer gum, lol. Two thumbs up

R.I.P. Busboys & Poets
BUSBOYS & POETS. I used to be really in love with this place, but over the past year or so it's gotten really popular (being featured in the paper, on the news, etc.) and more & more people keep coming. It's even a franchise now, with 2 other locations in the area (UGH). I guess that's "good for business" but it's def. not as chill a spot as it used to be. So long story short, I'm looking for a new chill "hot spot" in DC that everyone and their mom does NOT know about yet. And that would cater to a young lady of my ~*taste*~ and ~*sophistication*~, lol (this means something along the lines of what BB&P USED to be. Good music, decently priced food/drink, artsy atmosphere, diverse clientele, etc. etc.). Suggestions?
