“There’s a difference between recognition and fame”

In light of my recent posts, a few people from my past have stepped forth wondering if I’m referring to them. HA! Ironically, these are people I wasn’t even thinking about while writing, much less targeting my slow-simmering rage at. It still works for me, though: by thinking I’m even remotely referring to them and their actions, they expose themselves as just the kinds of people I am talking about. Smh.

All I have to say on that is this: Watch how you approach a G, y’all.

In these online rants—directed toward no one specific in most cases but everyone in general who’s ever said or thought such nonsense—I’m just telling my story. ALL of my story, and that includes the ugly parts. Those ugly parts helped me get to this point just as much as the fantastically great ones. I value my readers enough to keep it 200% real with them, and the reality is: not everything is perfect. None of this happened overnight or without extreme sacrifice and focused effort on my part and those of many other people, too.

You don't have to like the truth I'm spitting—everything isn't for everybody. But one thing you will do is respect it.

These are powerful thoughts not everyone is ready for. But that’s not my problem in the least. So Imma continue to vent here on my blog. I know you feel me: in the past week alone, 3K+ page hits confirm that. That is validation to me that these things NEED to be said. If my words are helping another person out there feel a little less alone or crazy, then Mission Accomplished.

So anyways, I was having a convo recently with the bf about the trappings of fame. I frequently say that I never want to be famous, just rich wealthy. Especially after being recognized by the butcher in the grocery store, I just wasn’t feeling the inevitable, which is some sort of recognition. But I misinterpreted all of that as something else: fame blossoming.

I wanted no parts of it. This is what fame does to you:

LiLo...

This is what fame does to you:

RiRi...
This is what fame does to you:

Insert any other embarrassing a$$ picture of a celebrity and it's the same thing… and I am not about THAT life at all.

Admittedly, I tune in to it on TV or via celebrity gossip sites, but in real life, fame is a nightmare to me. I want zero parts of that mess!

While we’re having this convo—with Kanye West’s Last Call playing in the background… how appropriate, lol. I can relate a lot to ‘Ye’s story—bf says something most profound: “There’s a difference between recognition and fame. A big one. Being recognized is a good thing.”

And he’s very right:

recognitionnoun; the action or process of recognizing or being recognized, in particular:
• identification of a thing or person from previous encounters or knowledge
• acknowledgment of something's existence, validity, or legality
• appreciation or acclaim for an achievement, service, or ability

famenoun; the condition of being known or talked about by many people

Recognition is defined more robustly, having a much deeper and varied meaning than simply fame.

I can dig that.

Also, recognition is the most applicable word for my situation. Not everyone reading this is the enemy; in fact, the vast majority are family, friends, and supporters. In the three years I’ve been running this blog, I’ve received one, promptly deleted angry comment a year: always from Anonymous, and always about some real-life celebrity I insulted. You guys should see the comments I got when I spoke on Janet Jackson’s cutlery cheeks, lmao. Girlfriend has some SERIOUS stans!

Talking to the former dean I referred to in my comeback post about the popularity of my blog and some of my concerns surrounding that, she also had some profound things to say. One of them was that all those page hits show that others out there can relate to my story. She reminded me that I’m very well-equipped to tell it. And what a wonderful position to be in, reaching so many people at once with two of my most powerful tools: words and the internet.

My mind was blown all over again.

Something else the dean noticed is that my face and personality is all OVA this blog. She said she doesn’t think that’s unintentional, and she’s right. Especially in IT, women like me need a voice. Some people out there don’t even know that we exist, much less what we look like or think about or the obstacles we have to overcome. Very few, if any, others in a position similar to mine seem to be speaking to and for us, leaving me to claim what is rightfully mine. Woop woop.

The dean said my story is very inspirational, and that more than a few girls and women—and boys and men, too—need to hear it. All of it.

So long story short: I’m gonna keep venting and trash-talking all over this internet, and those who feel me are gonna keep reading and relating.

Seems like a fair enough deal, no?

Kanye West & Jay-Z's Best Fashion Lyrics

BAWSE.
(Image via WireImages)
From MTV.com:

To celebrate MTV Style's unbridled enthusiasm for throne watching (which we've been doing nonstop), we've chronicled the BEST and most memorable fashion lyrics from the entire album with multiple nerd sessions devoted to "Otis." Of course. Get your Gucci geek glasses on, mmkay?

From the pedestrian "dot, dot, dot" (as in three dots, that midrange cotton T-shirt line) references in "Change Clothes" from The Black Album, Jay-Z has since moved (silently and with continuous secondhand movement for you watch fiends) onto Swiss timepieces in the $500,000 range. Plus, remember when he name-dropped Evisu in "Show You How"? Hasn't the beleaguered denim manufacturer had two major makeovers since?

A great many seasons have passed since both of these artists entered the stage; Kanye has long graduated from working retail at the GAP and his admiration for Antwerp is still going strong. In honor of each respective rap titan's style evolution, we dug our keyboard-bruised fingers into the massive lyrical content of the record. Some of us even made an homage Tumblr to Jay-Z's black strap, because "you know what that's for."

"N***** IN PARIS"

"Prince William ain’t do it right if you ask me/
'Cause if I was him I would have married Kate and Ashley.
What's Gucci, my n****?
What's Louis, my killa?
What's drugs, my deala?
What's that jacket, Margiela?
"
— Kanye

Just imagining Kanye in a polygamous relationship with the mini moguls of The Row and Elizabeth and James makes us titter in glee. Also, we have seen Kanye IRL in MULTIPLE beautiful, reeeeeeedick Maison Martin Margiela motorcycle jackets that feel and look like buttah.

"Got a broke clock, Rolleys that don't tick tok/
Audemars that losing time, hidden behind all these big rocks, I'm shocked."

—Jay-Z

Does Jay-Z have a Audemars Piguet manual? Is he not having his properly serviced annually? What is going on? Get thee to a watchmaker who is familiar with your particular caliber STAT, sir (respectfully). Also, you know what the Rolleys don't tick-tock is about, right? The second hand of a genuine Rolex features continuous motion. They literally do not tick.

NO. You're the nerd.

"OTIS"

"I invented swag, poppin’ bottles, puttin’ supermodels in the cab/
Proof I guess I got my swagger back, truth/
New watch alert, Hublot’s/
Or the big face, Rollie I got two of those...
"
—Jay-Z

Hublots are also good watches. Many people like them. Many in the sense that among the VERY FEW who can afford say, a King Power Alinghi 48 like it's no big deal, a great proportion like them a lot.

"I made 'Jesus Walks,' I’m never going to hell/
Couture level flow, it’s never going on sale.
Luxury rap, the Hermes of verses/
Sophisticated ignorance, write my curses in cursive.
"
—Kanye

This high/low thing is MAJOR in WTT, with cover artwork designed by Riccardo Tisci, the headmaster of Givenchy. But instead of it being a staid, minimalist production, the gilded image is so over-the-top that it indeed reminds us of writing curses in cursive. Also, here, Kanye is not only talking about orange boxes Hermes, but how quickly he spits. As in, Hermes, the Greek god with wings on his feet. Whoa. And the next line talks about "accustomed to customs" and Hermes was also the patron of travelers who cross boundaries. So...

"GOTTA HAVE IT"

"Bueller had a Muller but I switched it for a Mille."
—Kanye

The entire blog world thinks this song is about vacuum cleaners or some such (as they are thinking MIELE) but Kanye is clearly referencing watches. Muller (as in Franck Muller) and Mille (as in Richard Mille) are much more sexy (and up 'Ye's alley) than house cleaning products. Plus, you know your man has a Dyson ball.

"THAT'S MY B****"

"How could somethin' so gangsta be so pretty in pictures?
With jeans and a blazer and some Louboutin slippers.
"
—Jay Z

It is funny that this was Jay's line, because we all know that Kanye looks great in his house shoes.

"WHO GON' STOP ME"

"I’ll show up in all white, wearin' no socks."
—Jay Z (Image via Getty Images)

Please direct your attention to the picture at the right.

"MURDER TO EXCELLENCE"

"It’s a celebration of black excellence/
Black tie, black Maybachs/
Black excellence, opulence, decadence/
Tuxes next to the president, I’m present/
I dress in Dries and other boutique stores in Paris/
In sheepskin coats, I silence the lambs/
Do you know who I am, Clarice
?"
— Jay-Z

I don't have much to add to this, except I'd like to quietly point out that, in talking about his luxurious shearling coat and Dries Van Noten, Hova references SILENCE OF THE FREAKIN' LAMBS. Marinate on that for a moment.

"WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE"

"Move blocks and squares, move apples and pears/
Work pots and pans, Just to cop me some Airs.
"
—Jay-Z

"Welcome To The Jungle" doesn't sample G'N'R, but it does remind us where Jay-Z came from. And that he looks fly in Nike Air Jordans.

"MADE IN AMERICA"

"Downtown mixing fabrics trying to find the magic/
Started a little blog just to get some traffic/
Now all my n***** designing and we all swaggin’/
Ignore the critics just to say we did it/
This ain’t no fashion show, m********, we live it.
"
—Kanye

Kanye points out that some of the best rappers in the world have their own line, Jay included. And here could be his first (and maybe only?) reference to the line that he is quietly working on to be debuted at NY's Fashion Week, come September.

(via Getty Images)

"THE JOY" (Bonus Track)

"No electro, no metro, a little retro, ahh, perfecto."
—Kanye

Ah, we love a world where metrosexuality gives way to a bit of a vintage-inspired throwback. Truth: Kanye's at the top of his style game.

"ILLEST M*********** ALIVE" (Bonus Track)

"Collo Drolo sponsored by Manolos/
She got Zeppi Notos ready for some photos/
Yeah and I'm cold b****, please try to keep the door closed/
Lanvin thousand dollar tee with no logos/
Let me show you what I see when my eyes closed.
"
—Kanye

First, Giuseppe Zanotti reference, which is more evidence 'Ye is going to be making some pumps for ladies and we also love the "zeppi noto" since it reminds us of f***yeahmenswear (an oldie but goodie fashion insider reference). Second, he pronounced Lanvin correctly, which is better than I did when I quoted this line to someone, and they retorted, "It's not *nasal voice* LAN-vin, it's *posh voice* LAHN-VAHN."

Video: Kanye West ft. Rihanna & Kid CuDi - All of the Lights

The video for "All of the Lights," off Kanye's acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album, dropped today. Early thoughts: very colorful, kinda basic... then again, his last video was pretty macabre. What do you guys think? Personally, "All of the Lights" is a dope song but, admittedly, I'm a bit underwhelmed with the video.

Video (Uncut): Kanye West ft. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj & Bon Iver - Monster

'Ye always has something up his creative sleeve, doesn't he? This video is very dark and stylized... and, of course, NSFW. Partake.

P.S. I'd like to reiterate my opinion that BET Uncut come back for, like, an hour-long special or something.

EDIT: Of course, they took it down. SMH. BET Uncut I challenge you to come back!!!

Like a 'Ye-onix, I rise

So, I finally got around to watching all of "Runaway," the film compliment to Kanye West's soon-to-be-released album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I admit, I was a non-believer at first. But I've seen the light! Despite his wack reaction to interviews and generally egotistical nature, Kanye is a very talented dude. Too bad that doesn't extend into his or Selita Ebanks' acting, but I think understand what he's trying to convey with this piece.

The phoenix (played by Selita Ebanks... I see ya girl! Getcha bird on) falling to Earth is supposedly to represent the huge media blowup after the whole Taylor Swift/MTV Awards scandal, and also 'Ye's return to the spotlight following that incident. Kanye's nurturing of the bird is representative of him regaining his creative prowess throughout that whole ordeal.

'Ye takes the fallen phoenix under his creative wing, so to speak, and nurses her back to health—but not before taking her out to a high society banquet first. I found the dinner scene most hilarious.

"You know she's a bird, right?" whispers one of the party-goers to Kanye.

LMAO. Total Amber Rose reference.

Shortly before dinner is served, the scene segues into its eponymous title track. Ballerinas dressed in black fill the floor; this scene is one of the very few that focus solely on Kanye as opposed to him and the phoenix. As he tinkles away on a piano, you really get the feeling that it's just 'Ye and the music, totally representative of the creative process. The song "Runaway" is quite meditative itself, and the scene captures that emotion well.

After the performance, a turkey dinner is served. This offends the phoenix, who breaks out into a loud screech, scaring the other guests away. In this scene, Kanye struggles to keep his creative self under control without offending people, not unlike the situation with Taylor Swift, notes Jezebel.

Following dinner, the phoenix takes comfort in nature, chillin' out in the green expanse of Kanye's courtyard, petting sheep and whatnot. In the next scene, 'Ye and the phoenix discuss statues. The phoenix says statues are phoenixes turned to stone. This whole scene is poorly acted but you get the gist of it: basically, that to stifle yourself creatively is a kind of death. The phoenix tells Kanye she must burn in order to go on living (from the ashes of a former phoenix, new phoenixes are born... Greek Mythology 101 wink). He then proceeds to bone the phoenix.

Yes, he bones it.

Now that might seem a little strange or maybe even sort of predictable to you... HELLO, the bird is a Victoria's Secret model! Of course he bones it. But like the rest of the film, this seemingly random progression of events is metaphorical, too. As we all know, Kanye's an egotistical bastid. How he relates to his creativity is no different than how he'd relate to any other thing: he'd tell you he's the best at it, master it, think he's The Don because of it, etc. etc. This scene could also be representative of his creativity screwing him over, tortured genius that he is.

Shortly afterward, the phoenix makes a dramatic, fiery ascension into the heavens, leaving Kanye all alone on his terrace. Don't you just hate one night stands? Kanye runs frantically into the forest looking for the phoenix, but she's already risen. The film ends where it began, in the woods. The final scenes I find representative of being true to oneself; Kanye begs the phoenix not to leave but in the end, she is compelled to do what comes naturally to her.

Overall, I found "Runaway" to be a very ambitious film. I see where Kanye wants it to be this epic, "Thriller"-like piece, but that's a mighty feat to take on, especially for a first time director. I feel the metaphors could have been executed more clearly, which would really drive the poignancy of the piece home for a lot of viewers. I get the feeling Kanye made this film more for himself than for his fans, though, so perhaps a level of ambiguity was what he sought.

The cinematography was excellent; one could take a stillshot of any of the scenes in this film and have it look like it came from a high fashion spread. Kanye tapped visual artist Vanessa Beecroft as the art director for "Runaway," and her influence definitely shows. Beecroft's work also deals a lot with identity, which meshes perfectly with the themes in both the album and the film.

Speaking of meshing perfectly, the way the soundtrack compliments the film is astounding. In that sense, "Runaway" is more like an extended music video than a full out movie, which is not an unlikely comparison considering it was written by Hype Williams. Not to mention "Runaway" the film is great promotion for the ...Fantasy album, which itself is pretty epic.

I definitely wrote "Runaway" off at first, but there's no denying Mr. West's talent. There's no denying his creative growth over the past year, either. "Runaway" isn't the best film of its kind, but it's certainly promising and worthy of at least a couple viewings.

Wack Ass Job

No offensies, but this cover looks like someone painted it with their ass. A werewolf man with one prominent man boob being straddled while holding a Sprite? And last time I checked, phoenixes weren't crazy looking naked women with wings for arms and dalmatian tails. TRY AGAIN.

The proposed title of this album is equally as terrible: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He shoulda stuck with Good Ass Job. Now I see why Walmart banned this hot mess.

As for the songs that have leaked from the album (Kanye releases a song a week in his G.O.O.D. Friday series), I take particular issue with the song "Lord Lord Lord" featuring him, Mos Def, Swizz Beatz, Raekwon, & Charlie Wilson. Everything about this song is gravy--production, beats, most of the rhymes, featured artists, etc.--EXCEPT Mr. Alicia Keys. Wtf is Toucan Sam doing on the track? And why didn't they give him some less dope song to debut on? We as listeners are forced to sit through Swizz Beatz' lame bars just to get to Raekwon's verse. UNFAIR. Also, Swizz is completely outshone on this track; he's up against some heavy hitters, making his rhymes look even lamer in comparison. Fail.

In more WTF news, that "Runaway" film, which premiered yesterday in NYC, looks like it's gonna be quite esoteric (look it up) and terribly artsy-fartsy, so... good luck with that.

confused

P.S. Kanye, I know I been going in kinda hard on ya lately, but I only make these things apparent because I care. Also, you make it TOO easy sometimes.

How YOU doin' 'Ye?

Kanye's red man blouse (worn most recently during his SNL performance on Oct. 2) got him the immediate side eye from me. Anyone notice how eerily similar it is to Eddie Murphy's "Raw" look?

...and we all know how suspect HE is. Just sayin'.

Kanye snippet: F*cking With Me

Kanyeezy's back with a snippet from his Good Ass Job album. I'm digging it; the sound is more like 'Ye circa Late Registration (lots of horn riffs, piano loops, string arrangements, and other orchestra to produce what Wikipedia calls "rich, multi-layered instrumentation"). I can appreciate the experimentation in genre of his last album, 808s & Heartbreaks, but I have been waiting on old-school Kanye to reappear.

Date #1: Adams Morgan (Part II)

OK, so we're in his car getting ready to leave, when the Kamikaze shots come back to say hello. SO EMBARRASSED redface Of course something like this would only happen to me, ON THE FIRST DATE. I'm fully convinced I've made a complete a$$ of myself and my date will never want to see me again... but first, I must pass out in the backseat of his car (cue Kanye West's "Drunk & Hot Girls").

So my date is driving past the venue we had just left when one of his friends (who was also present at the cipher) sees what a predicament we're in and offers to drive us back to my house. Date's friend gets in the driver's seat, my date gets in the passenger's seat, and I'm holding the backseat down, of course. Then, as soon as ol' boy offers to drive us home, another car full of his buddies drives right up to the car we're in, and homeboy gets in the back of THEIR car and bounces. Leaves the door open and car running and everything.

"I know he's comin' back," Date says.

Ten minutes later...

"I KNOW he's comin' back." He ain't nevah came back mad Some friends, guy! I think to myself.

"So how're we gonna get home?! You're wasted!" I say.

"I'll think of something! I gotchu," Date says.

Date reclaims the driver's seat* and I resume the fetal position in the backseat of his car.

Maybe 30 minutes later, I manage to prop myself up and slur, "Are we there yet?" Which totally startled my date, who apparently had forgotten I was passed out in the backseat *smh* Right at that moment, his tire blows out. Could this date get any worse?! Oh yes, it can.

"What the eff was THAT?!" I say.

"I think my tire just blew out!" says Date.

I pass out again (how helpful, right? lol). But not before I observe Date excuse himself, then get out the car, see the damage, and start angrily shaking his fists and dancing around mouthing cuss words (I couldn't hear him through the glass window), lmao. It was quite the scene lol

Anyways, somehow he manages to get the car into a gas station, where hopefully someone's around to help him change the tire. Luckily for Date, some crackhead posted up at the station offers his services. But not for free.

"Hey man, I'll help you change that tire for $5 and a screwdriver." A screwdriver though?

"Yeah a screwdriver. To change the tire with, man."

Uh, OK. Gonna need a lil more than a screwdriver to do that, homes. But Date got one out the trunk of his car and Mr. Crackie gets to work. Meanwhile, my date pukes his guts out in not one, but TWO places: In front of a closed CVS (they must have been so thrilled to open the store with THAT loveliness out front, lol) and this alley in back of the gas station.

"Betta not let the cops see you like that, buddy," says the crackhead. Getting morality lessons from a crackhead... yeah neutral You KNOW it's bad when a freakin' crackhead is telling you how to act in public!

Maybe an hour later (still passed out at this point... damn those Kamikazes!), Mr. Crackie has accomplished nothing with that screwdriver. Date confiscates the screwdriver and denies Mr. Crackie's request for $5 for his hour's long attempt at changing the tire. That's when some non-crackish random on a bike rolls through the station and offers to change the tire in exchange for a pack of cigarettes. Score!

So an hour after THAT, we're on the road again. I didn't make it home til 4:30 am and my mom was pissed at me for being out so late. But, maaaan... what a night smile

*I totally do NOT advocate drunk driving. Seriously, I was a member of SADD in high school and everything. But really though, sometimes it's one of those nights. I try to avoid nights like that as much as possible. Trufax!

Listening to... 88-Keys - The Death of Adam

The Death of Adam is a clever concept album by producer/rapper 88-Keys. I've had this album for a while, but recently began bumpin' it again and I must say, I am definitely not disappointed. This album gets better and better with every listen. Not only is Death of Adam conceptually interesting (each song follows the sexual exploits of an everyman-type named Adam), the beats are fiyahhh--there's elements of rock, hip-hop, jazz and soul throughout the album, making for a great listen. J*Davey, Phonte from Little Brother, Kanye West, Redman, and Kid Cudi all make appearances, adding their respective musical touches to an already eclectic album.

To keep the narrative running smoothly, an unidentified round-the-way girl fills listeners in on Adam's adventures after each song. After "The Burning Bush," she says:

"So Adam told me he was mad as hell after dat! He was burnin' and he had to get a shot in his ass. He called that girl and cussed her the [blank] out! Called her all kinds of [blank]. He couldn't believe that [blank]!"
Her little interludes are funny and give the album a familiar feel. After you listen to all the songs, you're gonna realize you know about 10 real-life Adams (or maybe you're one yourself, heh).

Here's the tracklisting (it's more like a table of contents, since each song is like a story):

1. Morning Wood
2. Nice Guys Finish Last
3. The Friends Zone Feat. Shitake Monkey
4. Handcuff 'Em
5. Stay Up! (Viagra) Kanye West
6. There's Pleasure in It
7. (Awww Man) Round 2?
8. Dirty Peaches Feat. J*Davey
9. Close Call Feat. Phonte of Little Brother
10. The Burning Bush Feat. Redman
11. Ho' Is Short for Honey Feat. Kid Cudi
12. No. I Said I LIKED You
13. M.I.L.F. Feat. Bilal
14. Another Victim

And here's the video to his first (and only, from what I can tell) single off the album, "Stay Up! (Viagra)" with the infamous Mr. West. Hilarious.

It was a good day

Grandma stopped by today make dinner biggrin

On the menu:

- Hamburger
- Fried potatoes & onions
- Mac & cheese (for me, because I'm not too big on the fried foods)

Plus, I failed to inform you guys, but Boquisha had to be put back in the shop because her "Check Engine" light wouldn't go off. That reminds me of this Kanye West line:

... The girls, really they get in the car.
And they always wanna look over and be like
"Aw n*gga, yo check engine light on, it's on"
I'm like "Ya top on, so we got two things we tryin to get off right here"
Haha. Anyways, I thought it might be a problem with the transmission, since sometimes when backing up the car would shut off completely sad

Took her to my uncle's trusty mechanic friend, who initially offered to charge me only (ugh, "only") $1000 if the problem was the transmission, versus the $3000 another local shop was gonna charge me.

Long story short, turns out it wasn't the transmission, it was a far cheaper problem: the timing belt needed to be changed, plus some computer chip inside the engine that was causing the light to not go off. $300 he's charging me! That's $700* I saved biggrin biggrin biggrin I don't get her back til Wednesday, though (but, hey, I saved $700!!!).

Of course, today's theme song is this:

It Was a Good Day

*I'm not just realizing this, but taking care of a car is hella expensive. However, Boquisha is like family to me and I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world in terms of transportation, bet that. Well, except for a BMW 325i.

Mommy still luhs you boo!

On sale, 50 Cent!

I noticed that one of my top tracks for the past week (according to my handy little Last.fm widget to the right) is "Corner Bodega" by 50 Cent, a great riding song btw. Which led me to the thought, Remember when 50 Cent used to be cool? Like, right when he first started getting mainstream attention in 2000. At the lunch table in high school all everyone would talk about is how 50's that new hotness, how his mixtapes are pure fire, and how dope his then-album was. He's mad corny now, like a caricature of his former multiple gunshot wound, street warrior self, amirite?

Now he does press junkets with Bette Midler (major confused face here, what do these fools have in common?):

And tries to drum up interest in himself by starting beefs with rappers who are as popular now as he USED to be:

Let's not forget the infamous Kanye vs. 50 album sales beef (don't rappers see we're all on to the whole "fake beef" thing? IT'S SO PLAYED OUT)

When I was in NYC a couple summers ago, I asked this guy from Queens what he thought of 50. He said almost no one in the community respects him anymore, that once he got famous, he ditched his old neighborhood and got straight corny with it. In other words, he "sold out."

Yeah, go figure ::rolls eyes::

So many artists eventually sell out: Black Eyed Peas pre-Fergie; Missy Elliott--remember when she tried to capitalize off of that one really hot album she had, Miss E... So Addictive, by releasing two more really sh*tty albums right after? Yeah, FAIL; Ja Rule; Nelly. OMG there are SO many. And definitely not just in hip hop either. What musical sellouts are you guys still listening to, even if it's just their one hot song?

(PLEASE don't say Drake... I have the feeling with all this hype, he's gonna pull a "50" reeeeal soon. Which brings me to another thing that really grinds my gears: when an artist I knew about and listened to for ABOUT A YEAR before he/she blows up goes mainstream (remember when that song Drizzy did with Trey Songz a while back, "Replacement Girl," dropped? Hotness. Also totally annoying, when MIA's song "Paper Planes" got popularized by that Pineapple Express movie. Hello losers, that song was out for a good year and a half before it blew up AGAIN).

Hair Yeezy

I had a dream about Kanye West last night. We won't get into details (lol), but what I was left with after the dream was this: that man does some interesting stuff with his hair. I was thinking the other day how I would LOVE to see a high top fade on a fool. Bonus points if there's a design or some mess cut into it. Dopeness! If anyone could bring back the high top fade, I think it would be a fashion foward mofo like Yeezy.

Kanye's been rockin the "Bullet" (or "black mullet," as he said in one interview) lately...

But I'll ignore that in favor of some of his older styles.

Fendi

Swirly design
